Hurricane Ida makes landfall in Louisiana on Katrina anniversary as an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm

Hurricane Ida made landfall along the Louisiana coast on Sunday afternoon, the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The storm had quickly increased in intensity since striking Cuba on Friday. It became a Category 4 hurricane early Sunday, rapidly intensifying with sustained winds of 150 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
